A major new poster campaign on the London Underground put up by Surge Activism says ditching meat and dairy can save the planet.

Surge Activism have put up adverts on the London Underground quoting “According to the scientists behind the most comprehensive analysis to date of the damage farming does to the planet, conducted by researchers at the University of Oxford, going vegan is the ‘single biggest way’ to reduce your impact on Earth.”

Co-founder of Surge and popular vegan activist Earthling Ed wrote on Instagram “We are currently in a climate crisis. The world is being destroyed right in front of us and the future of life as we know it is in peril.

Thankfully, across the world, people are standing up against the destruction of the planet, terrified by the trajectory that our species has set the world on. But the elephant in the room still remains mostly ignored, especially by those in positions of power.”

The post is followed by further quotes from the Oxford University study which made headlines in 2018 and has been used as a major environmental argument for adopting a vegan diet since.

This environmental focus marks a change from Surge’s hard-hitting posters on the Underground last year, bearing the image of a pig in squalid conditions that poses the question to passers-by: “Can we really call ourselves a nation of animal lovers?”

Hot on the heels of David Attenborough’s shocking Netflix documentary entitled ‘A life on our planet’, this campaign could be the start of real environmental change in the UK.

With commuters currently urged to work from home by the government, the timing of this Underground campaign is questionable, but the climate crisis is only increasing in urgency, and action is undoubtedly required now.
